In an interview with TIME, the Ukrainian President spoke at length about the explosive February meeting, and his decision to present his US counterpart not with the gift of a championship wrestling belt, but a series of gruesome photos instead.
“In that moment there was the sense of not being allies, or not taking the position of an ally,” Mr Zelensky said.
“In that conversation, I was defending the dignity of Ukraine.”
Meanwhile, in a bungle of extraordinary proportions, a journalist was added to a top secret US group chat about Middle East war plans that appeared to include both Vice President JD Vance and defence secretary Pete Hegseth.
The journalist initially thought it was fake until he became increasingly concerned it was the real deal before exiting the chat.
One senator has said it was “amateur hour” at the White House.
