A Japan Airlines plane taxiing across the tarmac in Seattle has struck a parked Delta Airlines plane in the latest aviation incident to hit the US.
The plane hit the parked Delta plane as it passed, with the Japan Airlines wing slicing halfway through the Delta plane’s tail.
Nobody was hurt in the incident but both planes were badly damaged.
“So, we were sitting on the tarmac at SeaTac and another plane ran into us, just casually sliced into our tail. Very scary,” one passenger wrote on social media.
The parked Delta Airline flight, which was due to take off to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, had 142 customers on board.
The company said it was working to get passengers on a new aircraft.
DeltaAir Lines told FOX 13 Seattle that the plane was a Boeing 737 operating from Seattle to Puerto Vallarta.
“While in sequence for deicing, the tail of a Delta 737 aircraft reportedly made contact with a wing tip of another airline’s aircraft,” the airline said.
“There are no reports of injuries for crew or customers on the flight, and we apologise for the experience and delay in travels.”
The collision comes as the US is reeling after a week of horrific aviation crashes.
In the nation’s deadliest aviation disaster since 2001, an American Airlines jet last week collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter, causing both aircraft to crash into the icy waters of the Potomac River.
All 67 people involved were killed in the horror Washington DC crash.
Just days later, a medical jet crashed in north-east Philadelphia, killing a total of seven people and injuring at least 24.
