President-elect Donald Trump trolled Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday by posting an online parody conversation based on a viral video of him chatting up former President Barack Obama during Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
The seemingly friendly chat between Trump and Obama on Thursday raised eyebrows and left observers wondering what the pair discussed leading up to the 39th president’s memorial service at the National Cathedral.
Trump jokingly filled in the gaps when he posted a parody video on Truth Social with fake audio dubbed into the real video.
“I knew you’d win,” a dubbed Obama told Trump after sitting down.
“Oh really? Come on,” a faux Trump replied. “Anyone could beat her.”
The fake audio behind Obama also said he did what he could to help Harris, but that she was “horrendous.”
Trump trounced Harris in November to retake the White House after losing his re-election bid in 2020 to President Joe Biden.
Harris took over the top of the ticket in the summer after Biden’s disastrous debate against Trump forced him to cut his re-election bid short.
The spoof video Trump shared Sunday also showed Harris walking into the funeral with her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, and sitting down in front of Obama and Trump while the two presidents with the fake audio needled her again behind her back.
Trump’s clip additionally directed fire at former presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, who ran and lost to the Republican in 2016.
“You know what I realised. Hillary still hates me so much” the dubbed Trump said as Obama cracked a smile. “She’ll never forgive me.”
The social media post then cut to Clinton, who was also at Carter’s funeral with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, looking glum.
Trump addressed the viral exchange later on Thursday, stating he “didn’t realise how friendly” the chat appeared until afterwards.
“I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do,” Trump told NBC News at Mar-a-Lago in Florida following the funeral.
“We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”
The context of what was truly said is still widely unknown.
