Security footage of a man attacking his ex-wife and child in the hallway of a residential building has gone viral on Chinese social media, leaving viewers shocked.
The terrifying incident, which occurred on July 6 after 6pm, shows the mother and her daughter returning home. As they stand in the hallway with their apartment door open, a man wearing a red raincoat suddenly storms down the stairs, violently grabbing the woman and dragging her inside.
Moments later, he returns and also grabs the girl, who screams as he pulls her into the apartment.
More screams can be heard from inside the apartment after the door is slammed shut.
The footage sparked concern online both in China and abroad, described by one Twitter user as something that “could’ve been a horror movie, but unfortunately it’s real”.
On July 12, the Laiyang public security bureau in the nation’s Shandong province issued a statement saying that they had received a report from the woman, who is surnamed Jiang, at around 8am the morning after the attack, China Daily reports.

The man, whose surname is Zhan, is Ms Jiang’s ex-husband. According to police, the couple had completed divorce proceedings a month earlier, on June 6.
Police allege Zhan snuck into the building where his ex-wife and daughter live, hiding on the stairs while waiting for a chance to enter the home.
“After dragging the woman and her daughter into the house, he insisted that Jiang remarry him,” the report from China Daily read.
“At around 10pm, Zhan raped Jiang while their daughter was sleeping, and then fled.
“The woman and her daughter are now safe. Zhan was detained on July 11, and the case is under investigation, according to Laiyang police.”
News of Zhan’s arrest was viewed close to 500 million times on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
It’s unclear, though, how the security camera footage from Ms Jiang’s building ended up online.
Recently a video went viral showing a group of women being attacked by a gang of men in a restaurant in Tangshan city in Hebei province.
Footage showed a woman rebuff a man’s advances, sparking a brutal attack, with the woman dragged onto the street and horrifically beaten.
Police did little to follow-up the attack until it went viral on social media, however, nine men were later arrested after a public outcry.
