Soccer superstar Sam Kerr has been spotted in public for the first time since she was charged with racially abusing a UK police officer.

And it can be revealed police are still searching for the cabbie who drove the Chelsea striker to Twickenham Police Station after she allegedly disputed a taxi fare.

The Matildas captain attended a morning strength training session at the club’s Cobham Training Centre, arriving at the facility in the village of Stoke d’Abernon in a chauffer-driven car.

Dressed in shorts and with scars on her knee from recent surgery to repair a torn cruciate ligament visible, the 30-year-old spent several hours with the club’s medical team before returning to her Battersea apartment in South west London.

She emerged several hours later dressed in a green top and black trousers as she headed out for dinner with fiance West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis.

Sources said on Friday Mewis was with Kerr on the night of the alleged incident in January 2023 and it was the taxi driver who drove the pair to the local police station after the dispute over the fare arose.

When asked to comment about what happened on the night and how she was coping Kerr said: “Sorry I don’t want to talk about what happened”.

Kerr faced court last week where she pleaded not guilty to one charge of intentionally causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to the male police constable under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

Court transcripts this week revealed Kerr’s defence team are seeking to have access to CCTV footage from outside the police station and “within the custody suite” that captured the “short incident” between Kerr and the police officer.

There was no reference to the taxi driver in the court papers.

Manager of nearby taxi firm Excelsior Car and Couriers in Twickenham Mohammed Khoyrulboshor said on Friday police had been searching for the taxi driver and asked if he worked for his firm.

“I’ve had so many police officers come to me and ask if it was one of my drivers involved, but it wasn’t,” Mr Khoyrulboshor said.

A woman who works at a Thai cafe opposite the Twickenham police station said she recalled there being “a lot of noise and shouting” on the night of the alleged incident.

Myom, who did not give her surname, said she remembers seeing a “dark girl, small and a bit tubby, and blonde girl, taller than her, speaking to a police officer and there was a car parked up outside the station, it was around 2-3am, I can’t remember the exact time,” she said.

The Sun newspaper last week reported police will allege Kerr called the police officer a “stupid white bastard”, bit it is understood Kerr’s legal team will claim she instead used the phrase “stupid white male”.

Kerr, who has ben ruled out of the 2024 Paris Olympics, is on unconditional bail and will face court again on April 26, where her barrister Grace Forbes will seek to have the charges withdrawn.
