A late-night ruling has handed President Donald Trump the power to retain control of California National Guard troops deployed across Los Angeles until after the weekend.
A new ruling has paused a Senior US federal judge’s order for the Trump Administration to return control of the Californian National Guard troops deployed across Los Angeles to the state.
In the late-night ruling, the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals paused the court order that would have required President Trump to return control of thousands of California National Guard troops in Los Angeles to Governor Gavin Newsom.
The 9th Circuit’s emergency stay came hours after US District Judge Charles Breyer of San Francisco ruled that Mr Trump broke the law when he mobilised thousands of Guard members amid protests over immigration raids, and must return the troops to state control by noon Friday.
It comes after the Democrat Governor sued the federal government over dispatching roughly 4000 Guard members to protect officers carrying out immigration enforcement operations.
Meanwhile, mass protests planned across the US to coincide with President Donald Trump’s military parade in Washington DC on Sunday, have led police in some states to issue dire warnings to deter protesters from planning violent acts.
In Florida, Brevard Country Sheriff Wayne Ivey went so far as to say “we will kill you” to warn against protesters planning “No Kings” rallies.
President Trump admitted Thursday that his own immigration crackdown is gutting key American industries — and pledged that “changes are coming” to the White House’s policies.
Protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids that started in Los Angeles have spread to New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston and Austin, Texas.
