Politicians in Peru voted Friday to impeach president Dina Boluarte, who refused to appear before Congress for the overnight hearing.
Boluarte has been criticised for failing to stem crime, with her term since December 2022 being marked by numerous protests.
She has been accused of “moral incapacity” and failing to act as instability in the region grows.
An overwhelming majority of 118 out of 122 politicians voted for her impeachment, removing her from the presidency, Congress leader Jose Jeri announced.
More to come.
