BREAKINGIsrael-Iran conflict live updates: Donald Trump fumes after shaky start to Middle East ceasefire
Donald Trump has let his anger get the better of him in a press conference broadcast to millions.
Welcome to our live coverage of the escalating situation in the Middle East.
Donald Trump has fired off at Israel and Iran following a shaky start to his proposed “complete and total ceasefire”.
The IDF warned of incoming Iran missiles, four hours after the ceasefire deadline. That sparked a dangerous chain reaction that saw several Israeli politicians call for an immediate re-escalation.
The alleged projectiles were taken out by Israel’s air defence systems, the nation’s military claimed. Meanwhile, Iran’s ISNA news agency claimed that those reports are false.
It comes after Iran launched what it called its “mighty and victorious” response to US air strikes on its nuclear sites, on Monday evening, local time.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said “Operation Besharat al-Faith” saw missiles fired at the US’ Al Udeid air base in Qatar. It is the US’ largest air base in the region.
The skies across Qatar’s capital Doha – familiar to many Australians who fly through on the way to Europe – were streaked with antimissile interceptors and explosions.
Qatar said it brought down every missile. Both the US and Qatar have said there was no damage to the base and no injuries.
Both the US and Qatar were told beforehand of the incoming attack, apparently in an effort by Tehran to save face by responding but also to give both it and the US an “off ramp” from further conflict.
