Baby dies after fall from hotel window in Paris

A teenager is suspected of having thrown her newborn baby – with its umbilical cord intact – out of a Paris hotel window in a horror incident.

A newborn baby has died after being thrown out of a hotel window by a teenager believed to be the mother.

An American student, 18, allegedly tossed the infant from the second floor of the Ibis Styles hotel in Paris’ eastern Nation neighbourhood – just moments after they were born, reports The Sun.

Reportedly the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached.

Police have said an investigation into the murder of a person under the age of 15 has now been opened.

Alerted by screams'

The incident occurred at around 6am, local time, on Monday (4pm, AEDT), in the city’s 20th arrondissement. or district.

A person who is said to have witnessed the horror called the emergency services after being “alerted by screams,” said local media.

The baby was rushed to a hospital but did not survive its injuries.

The woman was reportedly on a holiday to France with a group of young adults.

She was taken to hospital where she underwent surgery related to the birth, newspaper Le Parisien reports.

Paris prosecutor’s office said: “She was also taken into custody on site. The possibility of a denial of pregnancy is being considered”.

“The investigation is underway and the precise circumstances of this tragedy remain to be established,” a person close to the case told French magazine Paris Match.
