Police arrested a dual Russian-Australian citizen after he was tackled and hogtied for allegedly stabbing a passenger during a flight to Moscow, according to reports.

Alexey Fursov, 35, who told witnesses he had a wife and son in Australia, had to be subdued after allegedly stabbing another man with a metal fork because he “thought he was going to bite [him]”.

The incident, which occurred as the meal was being served about two hours after takeoff from Bangkok, was filmed by other passengers and showed Mr Fursov being detained by officials and moaning in pain.

He was forced to lie across three seats for the remainder of the flight to Moscow, according to Moskva24, which reported his dual-national citizenship.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been contacted for confirmation of his citizenship status.

“After he was tied up, for the rest of the flight he was guarded by passengers in hour-long shifts as he kicked and tried to free himself,” reported Moskva24.

A female passenger said Mr Fursov told her about his wife and son in Australia, and that he had not been back in Russia for four years.

Video shows Mr Fursov pleading with flight crews to untie him, saying he was sorry before he hopped to the back of the plane under restraint.

“I’m just, I’m sorry, I’ve been away for four years, I don’t know what’s going on,” he said in Russian, according to a translation.

Russian police said the attack “pierced the victim in the chest, shoulder and back”, and that medical attention was required.

Mr Fursov allegedly called out “one hit, four holes” in reference to the four jabs made with the fork, according to The Sun.

Witnesses said there was a knife and sharp scissors up the sleeve of Mr Fursov, who allegedly told the crew that he thought he “was gonna die” because the passenger was going to bite him.

“So I got my fork ready, then he twitched again, I just stood him up and …

“I decided to poke him, and then you came at me.

“ I thought I’d just poke him and he’d disappear.”
