Young man charged over crash that killed baby boy, two adults in Western Australia

A young man has been charged over a crash that killed a baby boy and two women on a road in the outback.

A young man has been charged following a fatal crash that killed three people, including a baby boy, in Western Australia.

Emergency services were called to Geraldton–Mount Magnet Road near Yalgoo about 10.50pm on August 10 after a Toyota HiLux utility had rolled.

Gabrielle Brockman, 21, and her five week old cousin Levi Ashwin died at the scene.

Levi’s mother Marrika Brockman, 33, died later in hospital.

She was one of four flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service with serious and critical injuries.

The others were two 22-year-old men and a 43-year-old man.

A 22-year-old Newman man has now been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death in circumstances of aggravation and two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm – in circumstances of aggravation.

He is due to apoear in South Hedland Magistrates Court on Thursday.

WA Premier Roger Cook earlier called it a “horrible, horrible incident”.

“Because of where that situation is, the first responders were largely volunteers,” Mr Cook told the ABC.

“And so our hearts go out to the family of the victims and the first responders, we thank them for their incredible work.

“It must have been a harrowing scene and we wish everyone all the best who was touched by this incident.”
