Perth residents are reporting a mysterious massive explosion-like noise and shaking in the southern suburbs.

But emergency services and the scientists who track earthquakes do not yet have an answer as to what it was.

A wildly popular Perth weather social media account has received thousands of comments on the puzzling pulsation.

The incident happened about 11am Perth time on Wednesday.

“We felt it here in Hamilton Hill, sounded like something massive dropped on our roof and a split second tremor was felt,” one commenter said.

“Could it be some kind of super sonic boom – there seems to be some exercises going on with Singapore/Aussie RAAF from Pearce Base today,” said another.

“I’m in Port Kennedy my whole house was shaking and heard bangs. Saw on a post it was also felt in Mandurah,” a woman said.

People have reported seeing military jets in low-flying exercises in recent days, including on Wednesday.

The Defence Force has been approached for comment.

In a previous media release, the Defence Force said the Royal Australian Air Force was hosting an extended fighter aircraft detachment from the Republic of Singapore Air Force at a Perth air force base from June 24 to October 18.
