The 55-year-old male was apprehended and currently being questioned by police.

The alleged assailant entered View Street Medical Centre and struck a female employee. She sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital.

“This is a serious incident … this is very frightening for everybody involved and again I’d like to thank those members of the public who stood up and were able to detain the male.”

It remains unclear whether the man had any prior association with the clinic, and the motives for the alleged assault are yet to be determined.

The man is expected to face charges later tonight.
