A teenage boy has been charged over an alleged home invasion and mallet attack on a mother in Perth’s inner-east over the long weekend.

Police allege a 15-year-old boy broke into Kristy Dunlop’s home and left her with a head wound requiring hospital treatment.

Security camera footage from a neighbour allegedly captured a person entering Ms Dunlop’s house in Rivervale about 9:15pm on March 29.

WA Police have confirmed a boy was arrested and has since been charged with aggravated home burglary and aggravated armed robbery.

Ms Dunlop, 43, told 9 News Perth that her husband had arrived home about 9pm and left the garage door up.

The mother claimed she had just put her son to bed when she noticed a person in the kitchen unplugging her laptop.

Police allege after a struggle, the intruder delivered a “massive whack to the head” with a mallet.

Her husband chased the intruder from the home, and Ms Dunlop was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she received six staples to a head wound.

“I think in reality I’m lucky, it could have been a lot worse – it could have been my kids,” she said.

“My six-year-old, who has trouble sleeping because he’s afraid of someone coming into the house or breaking in, has now literally witnessed his worst nightmare and that’s really hard as a parent.”

Police allege the teenager assaulted Ms Dunlop, and stole a mobile phone and car keys.

Officers found the mobile phone at a nearby Armadale Rd, Rivervale address.

WA Police said in a statement on Sunday the Laverton teenager had been charged and refused bail.

He is due to face Perth Children’s Court today.
