Injured elderly pilot dies in hospital after plane crash

Police have provided a sad update after an elderly pilot crashed his plane upon landing at an Australian airport.

An elderly pilot who crashed his plane upon landing has died from his injuries.

Emergency services were called to Jandakot Airport, in Perth’s south, about 1.15pm on Friday after a VH-POR de Havilland Chipmunk crashed upon landing.

The 73-year-old male pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

But on Monday evening, police revealed the man did not survive.

“The 73-year-old pilot has tragically since died as a result of his injuries,” police said in a brief statement.

“A report will be prepared for the coroner.”

Officers from WA Police, St John Ambulance WA, Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services had attended the scene.

The incident will be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
