A Perth father has been left seriously injured after thieves ran him over in his own driveway as they made off with his ute.

About 5.50am on Wednesday, three offenders broke into Andy McCall’s Port Kennedy home on Montpellier Mews and stole the keys to his Isuzu D-Max utility.

In a desperate attempt to stop the thieves, the 59-year-old was run over in his driveway.

Mr McCall suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by ambulance. It’s understood he remains in a stable condition.

Neighbour Alan Atkinson said he rushed out of his home when his wife alerted him to the commotion.

“My wife actually woke me up, I was getting up for work, I was already awake but … she’d come out saying something’s happening in the street,” Mr Atkinson told 7 News.

“So I got dressed and quickly went out and found my good friend, my neighbour Andy, face flat in the cul-de-sac.”

Mr Atkinson said other neighbours came to Mr McCall’s aid and kept him warm with a blanket as they waited for emergency services.

“Andy has been banged around a fair bit, so he’s got quite a bit of marks on him,” Mr Atkinson said.

“I feel pretty angry about it because Andy is close to us … I just wish I had woken up 5-10 minutes earlier.

“He’s a great guy, he’d do anything for you.”

Police Commissioner Col Blanch said he was “disgusted by that action”.

“I know that we’ve got a person, a homeowner, that’s in hospital dealing with some serious injuries because of the actions of absolute criminals who have hurt a member of the public just going about their day at home.” he said.

Mr McCall’s ute was found by a member of the public abandoned on a bush track off Chalk Hill Rd in Medina on Wednesday

The three offenders remain on the run.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
