Australia must ‘never allow’ violence seen in Wakeley to be ‘justified’

Three cowardly assailants, disguised as police officers, have committed a brutal attack that left an older woman battered and bruised and her husband bound and traumatised inside their own home.

“The violent assault that occurred in Girrawheen is utterly reprehensible,” exclaimed Police Commissioner Col Blanch on Wednesday.

Western Australia Police released an image of Nannette, 73, with her approval to the media on Wednesday in hopes of portraying the gravity of the assault, as well as encouraging anyone with information to come forward with information the three men.

It’s alleged three men gained entry to the home in Perth’s north under the guise of police officers before they tied up Nannette’s husband, Phillip, and savagely beat her for around 30 minutes.

“To have people at home suffer that type of attack is a disgrace,”

Detective Inspector Gary Butler was visibly disturbed by the severity of the incident when addressing media.

“Once inside, the 76-year-old male was bound, and his 73-year-old wife was assaulted,” he said.

The assailants, described as having olive complexions, fled the scene after stealing jewellery of “extremely large value.”.

“Violence of this nature is unacceptable, and it will not be tolerated,” Inspector Butler said.

In the aftermath of the attack, the couple’s daughter spoke out.

“She’s 73 years old, she’s just fought cancer for two years, and she was just coming good,” the daughter told 9 News.

“They tied my dad up, in their own home, so it’s not safe to come back.”

Nannette is reportedly “traumatised and very sore” and will need to undergo medical treatment for her injuries, and the community remains on edge.

Inspector Butler issued a plea for information, stating: “We will not stop until these offenders are apprehended and placed before the courts.”

He also stressed the importance of verifying the identity of individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers.

“We would like to remind the public all plain clothes officers must show photographic identification,” he stressed.
