This year’s Dark Mofo has gone out with a bang, with an explosive fireworks display lighting up the Hobart night sky on Monday.
Thence We Came Forth to Rebehold The Stars by pyrotechnic artist Alex Podger was one of the final events for the winter festival.
The fireworks were a collaboration between Mr Podger and London drummer Gareth Brown.
Mr Brown interpreted imagery from Dante’s Inferno bringing it to life through percussion.
In true Dark Mofo style, Mr Podger then took that score and transposed it into the pyrotechnics display that wowed spectators.
Hundreds of onlookers lined Hobart’s waterfront to watch the fireworks, which lasted around five minutes.
Five year old Luke Matthews said the display was “good”.
“I liked the part when they shot up the big ones and the snakey one,” he said.
Guillaume Gagne-lemieux watched the display from Constitution Dock.
“It’s was a mind-blowing, colourful show,” he said.
Tanya Pengilly said it was a good end to Dark Mofo.
“We’ve done a few events over the weekend,” she said.
“That’s Dark Mofo for us this year since we’re not swimming in the morning.”
The final event on the Dark Mofo calendar is the Nude Solstice Swim which kicks off at 7:42am this morning.
