A Wadeye man has been taken off life-support days after he was rushed to hospital with mysterious injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jon Beer said police were treating the 49-year-old man’s death with suspicion and the exact circumstances around his wounds were unknown.

Sergeant Beer urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 44.

“Anyone with information, however significant, could help police reconstruct a timeline,” he said.

“Police particularly urge anyone with CCTV or dashcam within the community on the evening of Tuesday 17 September 2024 to make contact.”

Last week, Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said the man presented to the Wadeye clinic saying he had been assaulted two days earlier – the incident had not been reported to police.

Sergeant Rankin said the man had lacerations on his face and head, and had collapsed shortly before making the decision to attend the clinic.

He said the man collapsed a second time 50 minutes after arriving at the clinic and initial assessments suggested he was suffering from internal bleeding.

Sergeant Rankin said the man had been transported to Royal Darwin Hospital with the help of CareFlight.
