Sharp rise in Victorian youths refused bail

A woman is in hospital after she was slashed with a machete in what police are calling a “violent attempted carjacking” in Melbourne’s southeast.

The 29-year-old was filling up her car at a BP petrol station on the Princes Highway near Potter St in Dandenong about 6:30pm Sunday when a white Ford EcoSport with no licence plates pulled up behind her.

The woman went into the store to pay and when she was returning to her car was confronted by three male offenders, at least one of which was armed with a machete.

One of the offenders demanded the woman hand over her car keys but she refused.

The offender then tried to take the keys from the woman who was then struck in the arm with a machete during a scuffle.

The trio then fled in the car they arrived in.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The second male was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up and draw strings tied tight across his face, a dark-coloured face mask, dark-coloured cap, black puffer vest, black trousers, black socks and striped Adidas thongs.

The third offender was wearing a light coloured/grey hooded top with hood up, a dark-coloured beanie, grey tracksuit pants with a logo on the upper left leg and white runners.

A fourth offender remained in the driver’s seat of the Ford SUV the duration of the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
