This six-month-old wombat has settled into shelter life wonderfully.

Elton Emmet will kick back at Locky’s Legacy wildlife shelter until he is released back into the wild in about two and a half years.

Locky’s Legacy owner Lyndal Chalmers said Elton Emmet had come a long way since he was found alive inside his dead mother’s pouch.

“He’s just growing beautifully,” she said.

“He cares a lot about food at this age.

“He sleeps a lot and he gets feeds every five hours.”

Ms Chalmers said his love for stretching and biting sets him apart from other young wombats.

“He loves stretches,” she said.

“When you go give him a tickle to say wake up, he stretches his back leg right out flat.

“He’s a little bit cheeky because he likes to bite my finger with his teeth.”

Elton Emmet will be moving in with his five-month-old wombat buddy Elfred soon.
