A Werribee man claiming to be a “fan” of Melbourne TV and theatre stars has been charged with perjury and making a false report after bizarrely claiming he was assaulted at a celebrity studded opening night by a beloved Australian stage performer.
Kodei Mulcahy, 22, claimed on Instagram on July 14 last year that he had allegedly been “physically assaulted” by Rhonda Burchmore at the opening of the Dolly Parton musical 9 To 5 at the Arts Centre Melbourne that evening.
He then reported his version of events to police the following day.
Burchmore has denied the claims and in July last year made her own complaint to police about his behaviour.
Police interviewed Mulcahy, who describes himself as an influencer and socialite on his social media page, in August over the alleged incident and his claims and it can be revealed he has now been charged and will face court on Valentine’s Day.
“Police have charged a man after allegedly making a false report to police in July 2022,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“It is alleged the man reported he was assaulted by a woman in Melbourne’s CBD.
“The 22-year-old Werribee man was charged with perjury and making a false report to police.
“He is expected to be summoned to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 14 February.”
