A young tradie from Melbourne’s east has been identified as the Australian who drowned in a boating tragedy while on holiday in Thailand.

Corey Walsh, a 22-year-old roof plumber from Frankston, died after reportedly diving into the water while intoxicated during a boating tour off the coast of Phuket on Tuesday.

It is believed he was dragged underwater as he attempted to paddle against a strong current and was unable to be revived after being pulled out.

Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute, praising his “beautiful soul”.

Zack Williams lauded Mr Walsh’s selflessness, posting a touching tribute for a “one of a kind friend”.

“There was seriously not a time you didn’t have a smile on your face, and the way you could bring everyone else’s moods up was insane,” he wrote.

Another friend paid homage to Mr Walsh’s character, writing “you are the most genuine and outgoing person I know who could make everyone smile in the smoko sheds in a Monday morning”.

It is believed his body is in Melbourne after being kept at the Vachira Phuket Hospital.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover funeral expenses.
