Detectives believe a South Australian truck driver could hold the key to identifying human remains that possibly belong to a woman who was the victim of a hit-run in western Victoria.
A passer-by discovered human remains on the Western Highway in Kiata just after 8am on April 4.
Police last week said they believed the remains belonged to a woman, but the person’s identity has remained a mystery.
Investigators have been treating the death as a possible hit and run, but an exact cause of death has not been determined.
In a small breakthrough in the investigation, detectives seized a truck in Tullamarine on Thursday, which will be forensically tested for clues.
Police also interviewed a 33-year-old South Australian man, who was believed to be the driver, but released him pending further inquiries.
The Herald Sun is not suggesting that the man struck the woman, only that he was the driver of the truck found in Tullamarine.
It was believed the woman was possibly struck by a truck or some sort of heavy vehicle between 9pm on Thursday April 3 and 2am on Friday April 4.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
