Police arrest man and woman for alleged crime spree across Melbourne during the weekend

A 77-year-old Kew woman and 73-year-old Keysborough man were hit with a machete in separate home invasions, carried out in a terrifying weekend crime spree with incidents also reported in Prahran, Cheltenham and Crib Point.

A man and a woman have been arrested following a string of terrifying home invasions and violent robberies across Melbourne’s southwest over the weekend.

The pair, a 29-year-old Point Cook man and 41-year-old Clayton South woman, were arrested at Ringwood station on Sunday evening following a weekend of alleged violence.

The alleged crime spree is believed to have begun on Friday around 1pm with an aggravated burglary in Prahran, in which the duo reportedly threatened a victim with a machete before fleeing the scene in a stolen Subaru Impreza.

The pair then allegedly orchestrated another aggravated burglary in Keysborough just six hours later, leaving a 73-year-old man with machete wounds to his face.

On Saturday morning, a woman was allegedly slashed with a machete and threatened by the pair while vacuuming her car at a Bay Rd car wash in Cheltenham.

The duo then reportedly continued to brazenly offend before their eventual arrest on Sunday afternoon.

They were spotted suspiciously loitering in Patterson Lakes and allegedly stole a handbag in Crib Point on Saturday, before carrying out a terrifying home invasion in Kew on Sunday.

A 77-year-old woman was allegedly confronted and assaulted by the pair in the Kew incident, before being struck with a machete.

Detectives from the Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Air Wing, arrested the couple a short time later.

They seizing two stolen vehicles and multiple weapons during the arrest.

The woman was charged with a string of offences including three counts of home invasion, armed robbery, intentionally causing injury, theft of a motor vehicle, obtaining property by deception, aggravated burglary and failing to stop on police direction.

She will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Bail and Remand Court today.

The man remains in custody and is expected to be interviewed today.
