A woman who was seriously assaulted and left for dead at Dandenong Hospital has been remembered as an “angel” by those who knew her.
Chilean national Julia Neira, 63, was reported missing by a neighbour on June 14 after she failed to return to her Noble Park residence, last seen leaving her home with an unknown man.
Homicide Squad detectives are investigating Ms Neira’s death after she presented at hospital two days later on June 16, found with injuries “consistent with being seriously assaulted”.
Ms Neira died on Friday evening, prompting investigators to canvas the area around her home on Marna Court.
Neighbours told the Herald Sun investigators had inquired about CCTV footage over a weeks long period from June 7, the last time she had been seen or heard from.
Residents along the quiet, leafy street were “devastated” to hear of the woman’s death, with one individual describing Ms Neira as an “angel”.
It is understood Ms Neira had lived at her Noble Park home for the last six years, where she had grown close to her neighbours.
Police have spoken with a 62-year-old Endeavour Hills man in relation to the incident, however he was released pending further inquiries.
Ms Neira and the Endeavour Hills man were known to each other.
