Melbourne’s pop queen Kylie Minogue to be given top honour alongside music greats, including Michael Gudinski

She’s Melbourne’s very own pop queen. Now, Kylie will be honoured by her hometown alongside the city’s music greats.

Home grown pop princess Kylie Minogue has been honoured for her huge success entertaining fans at Melbourne Park.

The global superstar performed the final concert of her three night run at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday night, but before the show was presented with a commemorative star recognising her phenomenal live success at Melbourne’s arena precinct.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 35 years since I first stepped on stage at this

venue, and I’m honoured to be acknowledged in this way in my hometown of

Melbourne,” Minogue said.

Minogue first performed at Rod Laver Arena (then the National Tennis Centre) 35 years ago in February 1990.

Including the three concerts that are part of her Tension World Tour, Minogue has played 33 shows and sold more than 386,000 tickets at Melbourne Park, making her one of the most successful artists to ever perform at the precinct.

The star was unveiled by Melbourne Park CEO, John Harnden, and is located in the forecourt of Rod Laver Arena adjacent to the statue of the late Michael Gudinski.

Gudinski’s touring business Frontier Touring has promoted every Minogue concert in Australia over her career.

“It seems appropriate that MG will be watching over my star each day,” Minogue said.

“I’m incredibly thankful to all the fans that have attended my shows over the years.”

Melbourne Park boss Harnden said it was appropriate to honour Minogue and her incredible success.

“Kylie has a longstanding and record-breaking association with Melbourne Park and it’s only fitting we celebrate her amazing legacy with this star, cementing her name in the history of this great destination for live events,” he said.

Minogue’s career as a pop icon has been nothing short of extraordinary and she continues to be a vital force as an evergreen entertainer.

Her dozens of hits include Better The Devil You Know, I Should Be So Lucky, Spinning Around, Love At First Sight, All The Lovers, Padam Padam and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

Minogue’s Tension Tour continues with dates in Brisbane and Sydney before heading to

Asia, Canada, North America, UK, Europe and Latin America.
