A man is in hospital with a gunshot wound after a shooting in Melbourne’s CBD.

A passer-by alerted authorities after finding the man at the intersection of Spencer and Lonsdale St about 3.30am.

The 26-year-old Cairnlea man was shot once in his upper body, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The shooting occurred outside the West Side Place towers, home to high rise apartments and hotels including the Ritz Carlton.

The man is in Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition. Armed Crime squad detectives are now investigating the shooting.

A man who was staying in one of the towers said he heard two gunshots ring out.

“I heard two gunshots and I heard people yelling, guys and girls (yelling),” he said.

Monday’s incident came as the man who lost his life in a separate brutal assault was remembered as a vibrant person who “was unafraid to be himself”.

Andrew Truman died after suffering serious head injuries when he was violently attacked by another man outside McDonalds on Elizabeth St on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old Seddon man was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Police continue to hunt Todd “Rooster” Menegaldo over that attack.

Mr Menegaldo is known to frequent Elizabeth St and Flinders St, as well as Mildura and Bendigo.

Police urged anyone who saw Mr Menegaldo to immediately call triple-0 and to not approach him, while those who may have information on the incident should contact Crime Stoppers.--
