A murder charge has been laid over the violent Footscray death of respected photographer Dominic O’Brien.
An initial count of intentionally causing serious injury against Lominja Friday Yokoju, 42, has been upgraded to murder by homicide squad detectives.
Mr O’Brien, 62, died in hospital from injuries suffered in a June 14 onslaught at the intersection of Nicholson and Paisley streets.
Mr Yokoju was arrested on the same day as the attack.
It was later revealed the former immigration centre detainee was on a bridging visa after being freed by the High Court.
Charges that Mr Yokoju and other detainees had breached their ankle monitoring and curfew conditions were dropped last November.
