Investigation underway into the deaths of two women found in a Rosanna home
A neighbour has described a foul smell coming from a home in Melbourne’s northeast where the bodies of a 64-year-old woman and 84-year-old woman were discovered.
The bodies of two women, believed to be a mother and daughter, were found in a home in Rosanna in Melbourne’s northeast after emergency services were called to conduct a welfare check at the property.
Police attended the residence on Houghton Parade at about 11.20am on Tuesday where they discovered a 64-year-old woman and an 84-year-old woman dead.
A neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said his wife made a welfare call to police on Tuesday morning after a tradie working in his backyard noticed a foul smell coming from the house next door.
While police stated they are not treating the deaths as suspicious, the cause of death remains unknown at this stage.
The Herald Sun understands paramedics arrived on the scene within half an hour and confirmed the two women inside were dead.
A neighbour said they first noticed the smell two weeks ago.
“We checked the roof and surrounding area but didn’t find anything,” they said.
“The last time I remember seeing either of them was roughly one month ago.”
Another neighbour, who would like to remain nameless, said it was believed a daughter, who had mental health issues, had been caring for her elderly mother.
“They are generally reclusive, we rarely saw them,” they told the Herald Sun.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths, including how long the women had been dead.
