‘Glad it was safety first’: Amyl and the Sniffers share statement on cancelled gig
Rockers Amyl and the Sniffers have thanked fans for their understanding after the Federation Square gig cancellation as they gave a special apology to one group of fans.
Amyl and the Sniffers have added a classy postscript after their free Federation Square show was cancelled on Friday due to concerns about a crowd crush.
In a social media post on Sunday, the band paid homage to their Melbourne pub roots and reaffirmed that their priority is “safety first”.
“S**t happens so thank you everyone for being so understanding of the cancelled show and getting down to support local venues,” the band wrote.
“We wouldnt (sic) be who we are without collectively having spent thousands of nights at the pub,” the group said.
“Glad it was safety first”, they also added.
In Sunday’s post, the band also recognised their young fans, many of whom were disheartened after the cancelled show.
“And a big special sorry to the little ones who were waiting all day (sad face emoji),” the band wrote.
“Big ups melb.”
The punk rock group used their fee from the cancelled show to put $5,000 behind the bar at seven venues across Melbourne on Friday night.
