An expectant Frankston father is set to be charged on summons after he allegedly performed blue-smoke burnouts in front of police at a gender reveal party.

Police have slammed a father-to-be who is accused of performing an “extremely dangerous” burnout at a gender reveal party in a Carrum Downs industrial estate.

Police were called to the gender reveal party on Frankston Gardens Rd in Carrum Downs on Saturday afternoon following reports of a man performing burnouts.

Local police and highway patrol officers allegedly observed the expectant father performing burnouts with blue smoke coming from his tyres just after 2pm.

Video obtained by the Herald Sun shows the blue Holden Commodore performing several skids as blue smoke billows into the air.

Attending officers spoiled the party, impounding the 29-year-old’s vehicle which will set the accused hoon driver back $1120.50.

Somerville Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Phillip Hulley said his members were in disbelief when they responded to the party on Saturday.

He said there were up to 30 attendees including several children in the street.

He said many parents were more concerned about filming the “extremely dangerous” stunt rather than looking after their children.

He said the children “had the potential to be walking in where the car was performing this activity”.

“It’s extremely dangerous and we don’t tolerate that behaviour … people could have been killed or seriously injured,” he said on Tuesday.

“(We are) totally gobsmacked that someone would be so stupid and that people would think that it’s a good idea.

“They could have been killed, they could have stepped in front of the car. (It’s) disgraceful behaviour and poor parenting.

“I just shake my head.

“If anyone wants to have a gender reveal, have a cake instead.”

The other attendees may be hit with penalty notices of up to $500 for attending.

It is understood other vehicles using Frankston Gardens Rd were forced to sit idle on the street as they waited for the smoke – and the Commodore – to clear.

Fed-up workers at surrounding businesses say the area has become a hotspot for drivers to show off their cars by performing burnouts, donuts and skids at any time of the day or night.

They say a nearby street in the industrial estate regularly hosts a hoon meeting on Thursday nights and one hoon recently veered onto the footpath during his dangerous stunt.

Frankston Gardens Rd is this week stained with dark blue skid marks that stretch about 50m up the road.

Gender reveal tyres can be bought online for a couple hundred dollars each which are believed to be quite popular among those in the outer southeast.

One local retailer advertises more than 30 variations of the pink or blue tyres that would “make your gender reveal party a huge success”.

Many of the tyres are made from a “special rubber compound” that blows pink or blue smoke into the air but there are other products that have the same effect for a fraction of the price.

The Frankston North man is expected to be charged on summons with traffic offences.
