‘Could fit a whole car’: Massive sinkhole opens up on Flemington Rd
A “crater-sized” sinkhole outside the Royal Children’s Hospital has caused delays for motorists as crews inspect the damage.
A mammoth “crater-sized” pothole has emerged on Flemington Road, causing commuter chaos just outside of the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The two left outbound lanes at Flemington Road and Abbotsford Street were forced to close on Thursday evening due to the damage, with crews observed at the scene attempting to quell the traffic build-up.
Witnesses took to social media to warn road users of the chaos, describing the pothole as a “gigantic sinkhole” that “could fit a whole car, that’s how big it is”.
One comment describing the hole as “summing up the condition of the state”, garnered hundreds of likes, while another joked “that’ll take 6-8 months to fix and way over budget”.
The pothole comes on the back of the Herald Sun’s FixVicRoads campaign, which highlighted several of the state’s worst roads.
