Channel 9’s Tony Jones swore off farewell kisses after Bec Judd misstep, but lands one on Livinia Nixon
Channel 9 sports presenter Tony Jones vowed not to give Livinia Nixon a farewell kiss after her final weather bulletin — but he kind of did anyway.
Tony Jones vowed not to go in for the kiss when Livinia Nixon finished up as weather presenter on Tuesday night — but he did finally land one.
The Channel 9 sports presenter has been haunted by an infamous moment in 2016 when he attempted to farewell Bec Judd from the newsroom during her last bulletin before maternity leave.
Clint Stanaway said “the weather kiss curse has been broken” after posting a picture to social media of Jones and Nixon embracing.
“I’ve been told I’m not on flower duties,’’ Jones said.
“I think I’m benched. Bec Judd and the wider newsroom community still haven’t recovered from that moment.”
Jones had leaned in for a kiss and Judd awkwardly pulled away.
He’s not been able to live it down since and even stormed off set on the Sunday Footy Show when it was replayed again without his consent.
Jones asked Bec’s husband Chris Judd at the Sport Hall of Fame gala dinner on Monday night what he should do.
“Big kiss Chompers, you know what to do,’’ Judd said.
Bec also joined in the fun when she re-created the kiss on her Vain-ish podcast on Wednesday.
On a serious note, Jones said he was “in denial” that he was losing Nixon and his long-time colleague Clint Stanaway in the same week.
Sports presenter and reporter Stanaway finished up on Sunday night after more than 20 years.
“Clint’s a really hard one and I’ve been with Livinia every night in the studio,’’ Jones said.
“She’s got the most amazing sense of humour, so down to earth. Livinia has been a mainstay of the studio. It’s right up there as a big moment with Brian Naylor leaving and Peter Hitchener moving from Monday-Friday to weekends.”
