ACCC Calls For Regulations Amid Google And Apple Duopoly 29/04/2021

Australia’s competition watchdog has flagged potential regulation and new laws to deal with Apple and Google’s app store duopoly, with the ACCC highlighting “significant concerns” in a new probe into the tech giants’ market power… amid new action in both the US and Europe.  A plan for Australia’s national broadcaster to create a social network to rival Facebook will be launched today, fuelled by concerns the tech giant could again ban news and its “engagement-at-all-costs algorithm” was hurting Australian users.  Protestors have vowed to turn out every night to stop a controversial mass Kangaroo cull in Melbourne’s north east, amid fears a beloved roo dubbed ‘Big Al’ could be slaughtered.  And Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says he wants to continue coaching the club beyond this year… but will wait until the back half of the season to formally discuss his future. For updates and breaking news throughout the day, take out a subscription at heraldsun.com.au
