From speakers to sports, morning tea to music, there will be something to suit every woman marking International Women’s Day in Townsville.

Zonta’s Townsville Metro chapter will holdtheir annual International Women’s Day event on Friday, March 8 at 6pm, in the Great Gallery at the Queensland Museum Tropics Townsville.

Spokeswoman Teresa Hope said this year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Count Her In: Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment’, will be addressed by keynote speaker Leisa Quagliata, an esteemed figure in the field of Love and Money transformation.

“As the founder of Connected to Soul and LeisaQ Lifestylist she has dedicated her career to helping individuals break free from cycles of past hurts to discover true happiness that lies from within,” she said. “Zonta is an international organisation that stands for women’s rights, advocating for equality, education and an end to child marriage and gender-based violence and this local Townsville Chapter is also excited to announce at the event the winner of the Annual Zonta JCU Award for Best Woman in Engineering Thesis, sponsored by Premise.”

Tickets are on sale now and include a drink on arrival and canapes. Proceeds raised from the night go directly to Zonta Townsville Metro to support community and advocacy initiatives.

TheTownsville Business Women’s Circle will celebrate International Women’s Day at its annual TBWC luncheon, to be held at The Ville on Thursday, March 7.

The theme #InspireInclusion, focusing on a more inclusive world for women.

Keynote speaker Professor Ngiare Brown, the first female and first Indigenous Chancellor of James Cook University, promises to inspire and enlighten.

It will be an opportunity to network, celebrate and contribute to a meaningful cause, with all funds going straight into the organisation’s Marsh Education Bursary.

Ticket prices include a glass of sparkling wine on arrival, two-course alternate drop meal, three-hour soft drinks package, with a cash bar on site plus plenty of raffle prizes up for grabs.

Cluden Park IWD Prosecco Hour

Race fans will come together to celebrate the remarkable women in racing and fundraise as part of Cluden Park’s International Women’s Day 2024 festivities. A highlight of the race day on Tuesday, March 5, will be the International Women’s Day Prosecco Hour.

This exclusive event will feature a special guest appearance from Sam Collett, one of Queensland’s leading jockeys, who will share insights from her journey and experiences in the racing world.

Starting from 4pm in the Raceview Room, guests will enjoy a complimentary Brown Brothers Prosecco Spritz upon arrival and watch the final races of the day.

All ticket proceeds will be donated to Mater Chicks in Pink to further their work supporting women with breast cancer.

Guests can also join in on a series of raffles throughout the afternoon, featuring a Louenhide Gift Pack, to raise further funds for Mater Chicks in Pink. Entry donation per person: $20 General Race Day entry is free.

Soroptimist Townsville Breakwater and Ignatius Park Collegewill celebrate International Women’s Day 2024 with a breakfast on March 6 between 6.30am and 8.30am.

Guest speaker is Dr Ana Carla Leite De Almedia, who is passionate about encouraging leadership and sustainability strategies for women in agriculture.

International Women’s Day Wine Down Presented by Townsville Community Information Centre’s Together Townsville Networks, on March 8 at the Mercure Hotel, the Wine Down will be a convivial way to mark International Women’s Day.

It’s a chance to celebrate and be inspired by the women in our community at this special event. Enjoy free prizes, entertainment, inspiration, and refreshing drinks to unwind on Friday afternoon.

Singin up a Storm – Townsville Folk and Acoustic Clu

We’re All In This Together is the theme to celebrate International Women’s Week Townsville 2024 and Singin up a Storm will ensure local voices are heard as the Townsville Folk and Acoustic Club celebrates women and their talents in the performing arts.

Various singer songwriters, poets, comedians, dancers and musicians from all walks of life, from local and regional Townsville, will be performing and everyone is invited to come along for a fabulous night of entertainment.

The event is on Friday, March 8 from 7.00-11.00pm at the Herbert Hotel.

Join the team atTownsville Education Centrefor a fun, science themed morning as they celebrate International Women’s Day and all the fantastic female role models in the STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) world.

They will have a fabulous guest speaker, sweet treats, tea, coffee, some fun science demos and a raffle as they raise money for the Townsville Women’s Centre.

The morning tea is on Saturday, March 9 from 10.30am-12.30pm at Townsville Education Centre, 8 Keane Street, Currajong.

Table Tennis Tournament and Camp

Table Tennis Qld’s 2024 International Women’s Day Tournament and Training Camp will be held on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10.

International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the achievements of women and to raise awareness about women’s equality. It is also a day to promote the growth and development of women in sport. What better way to do that than with a table tennis tournament!

There will be a training session, junior event and main event on the Saturday.

On Sunday there will be a tournament open for everyone.
