A popular NQ cafe has been forced to shut its doors due to ongoing funding struggles.
The Oasis Townsville took to Facebook to announce Dirty Boots Cafe would be closed starting Friday, April 18.
“Until we are able to secure further funding, we have had to make the decision to close Dirty Boots Cafe for the foreseeable future,” the post said.
“We do apologise to our customers and facility visitors for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate all the support we have received.”
Locals expressed their support in the comments.
“This is sad to hear,” one said.
“Please find a way to fund this lovely friendly coffee shop,” said another.
The closure is part of an ongoing struggle surrounding funding sources, with a 12 month grant currently running four months overdue, according to The Oasis.
Other changes The Oasis implemented include reduced Homebase hours from 9am to 3pm, Tuesday to Friday, seven staff being made redundant, and the Navigation program being scaled down.
The community group said it will continue to support Townsville’s veteran community despite the challenges.
“The Oasis Townsville remains the Homebase for the Veteran Community in Townsville and continues as one of 17 Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs with a focus on wellbeing across the entire veteran community,” it said.
