Angry Townsville tradie targeted by thieves

An angry Townsville tradie has unleashed a fiery spray at the “bloody grubs” who stole his small business’s work trailer full of tools — a $25,000 blow he says threatens the livelihoods of several local families.

BSK Painting Services owner Kyle Currie took to social media after thieves pinched his small business’s 1.02-tonne silver box trailer from Barramundi Circuit, Burdell, over the weekend.

Among the stolen haul was a pro airless power sprayer worth nearly $10,000.

“Bit of a crappy start to the week,” Mr Currie said.

“Got to work this morning to find our work trailer with all our gear — including a $10,000 spray gun — has been knocked off. The lock’s been cut and they’ve driven off with the trailer, the planks, the lot.”

Mr Currie, who runs the business alongside a team supporting three other families, said the theft wasn’t just about lost equipment — it was about their ability to work and support their families.

“We work hard for the things we do and the things we have, and these bloody grubs come in and steal it from ya,” he said.

He urged locals to keep an eye out for the trailer, describing it as “a big silver trailer” that may have already been dumped after the thieves emptied it.

“If you see it anywhere, get in contact and I’ll shout ya a carton or something.”

Speaking later with the Townsville Bulletin, Mr Currie estimated the business had already spent $18,000 replacing critical tools but still hadn’t been able to buy a new trailer, bringing the total loss to around $25,000.

“It’s my livelihood and a few other families’ livelihoods,” he said.

“It makes it hard to keep on top of the work when you’ve got no tools.”

Mr Currie’s call for public help has sparked a wave of local support online, with many reporting similar thefts.

“Which site was this at? We had a break-in near the meatworks with a s**tload of tools stolen,” one person commented.

“Been heaps getting knocked off out Alligator Creek way too, mate — the bloody grubs,” another said.

Police confirmed they are investigating after a box trailer was stolen from Barramundi Cct, Burdell between 3pm on May 2 and 6am on May 6.

The box trailer remains outstanding. The investigation is ongoing. No one has been charged at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
