A Townsville mum was told her unborn child had half a heart, and a limited chance of survival.

Now, that child, Georgia has underwent three open heart surgeries that have saved her life, one of which occurred at only a couple of days old.

Her mum, Larissa Brown said the family left their home in Townsville for Brisbane so Georgia could receive the vital help needed from Queensland Children’s Hospital.

“There was a point we were told Georgia might not make it,” Mrs Brown said.

“The support we received during those moments – when we could hardly function – meant everything. From the therapies that soothed her, to the spaces like Kidzone that brought joy to her big sister Emilia, we were able to focus wholly on Georgia.”

The Children’s Hospital Foundation was able to provide Georgia and her family with comfort through music therapy and play resources for her sister.

The Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Lyndsey Rice said “Georgia’s story is one of strength and survival”.

“But it’s also a reminder that for so many families, hospital becomes home and that every donation received allows the Foundation to wrap sick kids in the warmth of community and care, allowing them and their families to focus on getting home sooner.”

Mrs Brown said that the hospital “saved our daughter” but the “Children’s Hospital Foundation saved us”.

The Children’s Hospital Foundation have asked for Queenslanders to donate to help kids like Georgia and her family be provided with vital resources during such difficult times.
