Brazen offenders inside a stolen car hit a police vehicle and threw things at them before driving off during another busy morning for police in Townsville.

An investigation is underway after police observed two stolen vehicles — a white Mercedes Benz and a silver Hyundai Tucson — travelling in the vicinity of Murray about 3am on Sunday.

The vehicles were driving dangerously, with one vehicle driving slowly into the rear of a stationary police vehicle, before driving off, according to a police spokeswoman.

“Items were thrown from the vehicles towards police vehicles,” she said.

“No police vehicles were damaged, and no officers were injured.”

It comes after police vehicles were “actively targeted” by three stolen cars during an incident in Vincent on March 6.

The stolen Hyundai was located abandoned nearby a short time later and the Mercedes remains outstanding.

Anyone with information about either vehicle is urged to contact police.
