Tour de Cure made its Townsville stop on Saturday with 200 riders and support crew travelling through to fundraise money for cancer.

It comes just after NQ’s own Michael Paulsen announced he would be joining the tour after riding 100,000km for cancer research.

The paramedic celebrated the feet earlier this month telling the Townsville Bulletin he coloured his hair purple to bring more attention to the fundraising efforts.

This weekend he was joined by Channel 7’s Mark Beretta who also cycled into Townsville to form part of the Tour de Cure’s 1200km charity ride from Airlie Beach to Port Douglas in a bid to raise more than $21m and help cancer research fund their 200th research breakthrough.

During the ride Tour de Cure will fund eight community grants of $10,000 each to local cancer services in the region.

Tour de Cure Chairman Bruno Maurel said every dollar was stretched as far as they can possibly do so to support vital research.

“We support the most promising projects with the greatest potential to save lives,” he said.

“We work with leading researchers, medical institutions and community organisations to fund breakthroughs that improve outcomes for those impacted by cancer.”
