Is this Townsville’s tastiest collaboration yet? Good Morning Coffee Trader has taken over the city’s Getta Burger joints, serving up the ultimate coffee and burger combo at three locations, with a new drive-through opening this week.
This innovative move comes after the popular fast-food chain Getta Burger went into liquidation earlier this year, resulting in the closure of 14 stores across Queensland.
However, three profitable Townsville branches — located in Idalia, North Ward, and Kirwan — remained open.
Good Morning Coffee Trader’s managing director, Rob Aumend, revealed that in order to save the businesses and more than 20 local jobs, their company acquired the three Getta Burger locations and rebranded them into hybrid stores.
These new spots combine the existing Good Morning Coffee Trader brand with a fresh burger offering, rebranded as Getta Betta Coffee + Burger.
The North Ward store was the first to be rebranded in July, followed by the transformation of their Idalia coffee drive-thru into Getta Betta Coffee + Burgers last month.
This week, the latest addition to the trio of locations, a new drive-through on Bamford Lane, Kirwan, swung open its doors right across from Parkside Plaza.
Mr Aumend said the hybrid model is designed to attract customers both for their morning coffee and later for burgers at lunch or dinner, making the most of the drive-through’s convenience.
“People may say, ‘Oh, coffee and burgers, they don’t really go together.’ And our answer is, well, that’s the point,” Mr. Aumend explained.
“There’s a breakfast and coffee product, and then there’s a lunch and dinner product as well.”
He added that by maintaining a high standard across both offerings, they expect to capture customers throughout the day.
“We hope people will grab their coffee on the way to work and then pick up dinner on the way home,” he said.
To stand out from traditional fast food, the company is focusing on using high quality, locally sourced ingredients for the burgers.
“It’s just beef. There is no Hamburger Helper. It is just pure Queensland Outback beef,” Mr Aumend said.
“Our bread rolls are made locally to a super high standard — no preservatives, no anything.”
