A SHARED love of flowers has blossomed into a business venture for Jess Baker and Natalie Burns who have opened The Bloom Room in Otto’s Market Precinct in Idalia.

The business partners are long-time friends who live across the street from one another and have always bought each other flowers as presents.

“It’s always been a joint love of ours. We were both at a point where we needed a new challenge,” Ms Baker said.

Ms Burns said she never thought the dream of operating a flower business would happen, but they resolved to “just do it.”

Initially, they operated from Baker’s home.

Now, the venturers have opened a shop in the arcade of Otto’s Market alongside The Spirited Goat cafe, providing flowers, gifts and workshops.

They give courses in making bouquets, flower crowns and wearable flowers, including for children and people in retirement homes, and operate clay and painting “dates”.

They supply flowers for weddings and to the Coffee Tree Collective cafe in Kirwan.

“We specialise in natives. There are some beautiful flowers that often get overlooked. Our trademark is using hessian for wrapping,” Ms Burns said.

Both women have worked extensively in the building and construction industry and Ms Baker continues to operate a business called Next Level Land Marketing.

They are also planning other business ventures so watch this space.
