Truck driven dangerously in Townsville on Friday night

Concerned residents have shared images and videos of a white truck being driven dangerously around Townsville for more than two hours, leaving a trail of destruction, including a rammed vehicle, before it eventually crashed.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said they responded to a single-vehicle crash into a fence on Bundock St, West End, at 10.30pm on Friday – where there were no serious injuries.

“Police have charged a man after an Isuzu truck was allegedly driven dangerously in Townsville (on) October 11,” the spokeswoman said.

“It will be alleged the truck was seen driving dangerously just after 9pm, including on the wrong side of the road, driving at speed, and swerving across lanes.”

Police took a man into custody after the truck crashed.

Cranbrook resident Carmen Parker shared an image of the wrecked door panels of her car, saying she had been taken out by the truck at the roundabout of Fitzroy and Charles St, Heatley, at about 8.30pm.

“We were just coming home from getting pizza … I was already on the roundabout and the truck came from the left and looked like he was going to stop, and then he just kept going and rammed into the side of us,” Ms Parker said.

“We continued around the roundabout and pulled over and he just kept going.

“My friend knocked his head on the side of the car. He’s got a sore jaw today and a sore tooth. I got a jarred back and sore shoulder today. Yeah, scary.”

Despite the police helicopter following the truck “for a couple of hours”, she was told by police that they couldn’t do anything until it crashed.
