Police declare crime scene after Pimlico unit fire

Townsville police launched an investigation and declared a crime scene after a unit fire in Pimlico. Read the latest.

Police have declared a crime scene at a Pimlico unit after emergency services responded to a fire in its kitchen.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed that a fire at a unit complex on the corner of Palmerston St and Kings Rd, was reported at 12.40pm on Thursday.

She said there was minimal damage and no one was injured.

A crime scene was declared to preserve the scene and determine whether the cause of the fire was suspicious.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said three crews responded to the fire, with the first arriving at the scene at 12.50pm.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from a ground floor unit and isolated the power.

She said no one was in the unit at the time of the fire, which appears to have originated near the stove in the kitchen.

One of the unit’s windows was broken.

Investigations are ongoing.
