‘Nothing more exciting’: North Shore development celebrated

Families celebrated the latest addition to the $300 million dollar North Shore development during an open day. Take a peek.

Families celebrated the latest addition to the $300 million dollar North Shore development during an open day on Saturday.

The opening of the Junction Cafe at the centre of Stockland North Shore’s development late last year was celebrated while families were invited to get up, close and personal with the machinery.

Stockland Senior Development Manager Rachel Dunstan said numbers to the open day were immense, with bustling business coming through the Junction Cafe and the nearby heavy machinery display.

Earlier this year, the development completed construction on the nearby Junction Park and display village, while development is continuing on a series of walking paths and greenery connecting older areas of the development to newer residents.

But that pales in comparison to the number of people expressing interest in the area.

“It has been busy for well on over a year now, we’ve had our home build-up and there’s been a huge rush of people moving either to Townsville or within the city. North Shore just allows those families to come in and make use of all the facilities we have,” Ms Dunstan said.
“We’ve got three schools, two childcare centres, we’ve got plenty of parks, the latest one, the Junction Park is here and we’ve got land for sale now.

“There’s real opportunity for everyone here.”

Junction Cafe operator Kaylah Schofield said her business was perfectly placed, situated beside the Junction Park and across the road from one of the area’s childcare centres and schools.

“It’s been going really well, we’ve been busy consistently, especially in the mornings, it’s getting a bit hot at the moment so the afternoons are a little bit quiet,” Ms Schofield said.

“It’s close to home and it’s something that we want for our family. We want to be able to just walk down the street and go to a nice cafe that’s family friendly, we’ve got the kids area inside and the playground outside. It’s perfect.”

Ms Dunstan said the massive machines were not only a sure-fire hit with the kids, but a nice way to push the spotlight onto the workers who’d made the build possible.

“Families and kids see construction happening in the distance, but getting to see it up close and how it all works is something that’s really fantastic,” Ms Dunstan said.
“I can’t congratulate Hansen Constructions NQ, they did a great job for us. They’re really proud of what they do and there’s really nothing more exciting than taking nothing and building it into something.”
