CROWDS can expect an action packed event, with some of Australia’s best cowboys and girls competing for bragging rights and cash at the North Queensland Elite Rodeo this weekend.
The Hervey Range Rodeo Grounds will host the event over two nights, with some of the best ropers and riders in the country on show.
“They all came up to North Queensland before the lockdown and have been doing the northern run which is all the rodeos from Charters Towers, Richmond, Cloncurry and Mt Isa and we end the northern run here,” promoter Quintin Kerch told the Townsville Bulletin.
He said nominations for this weekend’s event had doubled on previous years.
“At the moment we are pushing nearly 40 bull riders which is nearly double what we normally get, and we have 80 team ropers.
“It is just fantastic to see so many people getting back into the action of rodeo.
“We have got bronc riders, bareback riders, and bull riders and then we have the time events, the barrel race and the breakaway, then the team roping, the rope and tie and the steer wrestling.”
He said spectators would receive an elite experience.
“We like to, not only giving elite rodeo action in the arena, but also give everyone an elite experience at the grounds as well.
“Everyone who comes out here knows they will get the best food, the best drink and the best service.”
There will also be live music, with local band Boot Hill Express playing on Friday night and rising country performer Brad Cox on Saturday night.
