A family that recently moved to Townsville had their fresh start shattered when car thieves tore through their quiet Burdell street overnight, breaking into multiple homes.
Police are investigating a spate of break-ins along Tasman Circuit, Burdell, after reports started coming in around midnight on Thursday.
A gang of opportunistic criminals targeted multiple homes, swiping handbags and stealing two cars before fleeing into the night.
One victim, Sandra Liau, who had only recently moved to Townsville from Brisbane with her family, woke up around 3am on Friday to police officers at her door.
They delivered the shocking news that their black Toyota LandCruiser Prado had been stolen.
“This makes me so emotional, we only had him for two months,” she posted on Facebook.
Ms Liau said she later discovered the thieves had also pinched her designer bags loaded with valuables, including a brown Coach tote bag, a Dior pouch, and a black Charles and Keith bag containing her Michael Kors wallet.
She said her stolen wallet held $300 in cash and important identification documents.
Another resident along their street also woke up to find her home had been broken into and her handbag stolen.
Police said the bag was later found dumped on the street, emptied of its contents.
The thieves also broke into another house and stole a white Nissan Pathfinder.
A young man wearing a LA cap and camouflage Everlast hoodie was also caught on CCTV trying to open the door of another Burdell residence the same night but was unsuccessful.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward immediately as they work to track down those responsible.
