Customers are returning time and time again to a family owned cafe in North Ward for their homemade pastries, delicious matcha and affordable focaccia sandwiches.

Me Myself and Coffee + Bakery have been serving up delicious fresh baked goods for nearly a year including meat pies, custard tarts and loaves of bread.

Each morning, their cafe manager Hope Turner is in the kitchen at 4am making everything fresh for the day.

“I love creating, I love inventing and I love the fact that people love what we do,” she said.

“If I make something and someone might come in and say ‘that is so good’, that’s amazing.”

MM Cafe’s Dana Kvatinsky said their use of local produce and the comfortable vibe they create in the store is what brings people to their door.

“We’re a small local bakery … a nice place to come and we use local produce and buy local ingredients,” she said.

“With the whole financial crisis, we just want to do the right thing for the community and give them a space to enjoy while they eat good high quality food.

“I think that’s what people are missing around the world … is the roots of nice local bakers.”

Their social media has helped showcase their delectable goods to a wider audience, bringing in customers from across the region.

“I think that we have something different and we need to be proud and tell everyone to come to North Ward,” Ms Kvatinsky said.

“We are making this a destination for the matcha and focaccia, and how will people know that (without social media).”

Their signature iced original and strawberry matcha have quickly become a bestseller for the business.

“Over the last few months we noticed people come in for weekend brunch and they love the focaccia and the matcha … because it’s convenient and good.”

The staff, which have become like a tight knit family, pride themselves on taking the extra step to ensure their new recruits and customers are cared for.

“I’ve always said if it’s not a little family, you’ve got to change something,” Ms Turner said.

Ms Turner said their customers are from all different backgrounds including office workers, local tradies, school kids and families.

“We’ve got such a variety of people here too … and they all will venture out this way which is great,” she said.

“Its nice that people are starting to appreciate our work too. They will come here specifically knowing that everything is made fresh.”

MM Cafe and Bakery is located at 26-28 Mitchell Street North Ward and is open seven days a week from 7am.
