Townsville’s best childhood educator votes are in; the winner is not only a person with a strong passion for supporting children on their learning journey, but also a first year trainee.
Taylah Draper is one of the newest editions to the team at Milestones Early Learning Childcare in Cranbrook after struggling to find rewarding employment elsewhere.
“I’m grateful that I got this job because I used to work in retail and I thought I needed a bit of change and so I thought I’d make a difference in children’s lives,” Ms Draper said.
“You never really know what your passion is until you do something so I would say now it is my passion to work with children and to help them, love them and teach them.”
Ms Draper has spent a little over a year as a trainee and is currently wrapping up her studies for her certificate three in Early Childhood Education and Care and plans to gain more practical knowledge before heading on to complete her diploma.
While the 21-year-old may not have years of experience under her belt, her enthusiasm and natural ability to connect with children has spotlighted her as a quality childhood educator in the eyes of parents.
“I think the thing I hear from parents the most is that I build a really strong relationship with their children and I just love them for who they are,” she said.
“I teach them the way that I think that they should be; they are all different and they should be taught differently to suit that.”
“It’s really rewarding, I have a lot of children at work that I think I would be lost without them.”
“I know some children have hard lives sometimes so I just want to show them that there are people here that love them and care for them.
Ms Draper said she was over the moon to be named as the best childcare educator and wanted to thank her mentors for teaching her everything she knows.
